Club Information Sheet
Rotary is the largest service club in the
world. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders
united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical
standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
Rotary is some 1.2 million service-minded men and women belonging to more
than 28,000 Rotary clubs in virtually every nation in the world.
There are three clubs in St. Joseph, East
Side, South Side and our Downtown Rotary Club.
Our club meetings are held weekly at noon
on Tuesdays at the Holiday Inn. Lunches are always varied and delicious.
The buffet line is ready for serving at 11:45 a.m. A guest speaker is
provided weekly by the program committee. The meeting is from noon to 1:00
p.m.
We have about 97 members at the present
time. This may vary a little each year.
A
fourteen member governing board of directors is selected yearly and serve
from July 1 to July l. They meet monthly with an open invitation to
members to attend any of our board meetings during the year.
We plan at least two money making
projects yearly. Our “Travel Vacation” project is started in January with
the distribution of tickets to the membership for purchase or selling of ten
tickets at $10 each (total $100.) This project is put in play in January
and the winning ticket is drawn at the annual Valentine noon luncheon.
We also participate in
the Pumpkinfest held in October. We have the Pepsi and Coke booths with
sign up schedules for our work in the booths.
The club is a service club and we
contribute to many local organizations yearly as well as international
causes: examples – Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, United Way, Junior Achievement,
Allied Arts, Museum, JROTC, to name a few.
Scholarship opportunities – The local
Rotary Foundation awards five $1000. to seniors here in the St. Joseph High
Schools; Ambassadorial scholarships are offered to college students through
Rotary International with one year’s study abroad being paid for by this
organization; Rotary District scholarships, usually $1000. are awarded to 10
to 15 senior high school students who reside in District 6040. Rotary is
widely regarded as the world’s largest private provider of international
educational scholarships.
