HILVERSUM ROTARY CLUB  RI 2943   CHARTERED NOVEMBER 17, 1928

The founding of the Rotary Club of Hilversum in the Netherlands followed an invitation by Jan van Tyen to his home on December 1, 1927.  Jan van Tyen had been a member of the Port Arthur club in Texas in the immediate post World war one period.  He had been involved in the creation of the first club in his home country, in Amsterdam (QV).  Now he invited four friends, Farwerck, Jaarsma, van Mesdag and Moltzer to discuss the formation of a new club.

After considerable discussion, van Tyen convinced them and it was agreed that Moltzer would attend a District meeting of Presidents and Secretaries in The Hague on December 10, 1927.  A month later, January 12, 1928, another four members, A.R.Buwalda, P.J.van Dam, G.van Duyl and J.H.M.M.de Rode, joined them to listen to a speech by J.A.E.Verkade about Rotary objects. They already met regularly in the Palace Hotel and Jan van Tyen joined their meetings quite often. Gradually more members joined the club.

The official foundation meeting took place in Palace Hotel on May 31,1928 by D.G. D.Hudig. There were 13 members and 12 guests including Verkade. During that meeting the club decided on a yearly contribution of  fl 20,- and an entry fee of fl 10,-. The members decided also about the board, which had to be in charge until July 1, 1929.
