Moraga Rotary became a chartered Rotary club in 1967. New Rotary clubs require a sponsor, and ours was the Rotary Club of Orinda.

In the early years we met at the Rheem Valley Hotel. In 1969 we moved to the place where we meet today, the Soda Center at Saint Mary's College.

Moraga Rotary was founded with 16 members. Each of these charter members was instrumental in establishing the course Moraga Rotary would take to better its community and its world. They represented people from our Moraga community. Business people and parents; people committed to improving Moraga and enjoying the company of others who work to give something back.

In the years to follow Moraga Rotary would embark on a number of projects to improve the environment in which our children learn, contribute to the eradication of Polio throughout the world, take part in dental reconstruction programs in South America, and work to improve the learning conditions of children in the Philippines and in Mexico.

Moraga Rotary has long put education in our community at the top of our list through our annual contribution to the Brother Albert Rahall Scholarship Foundation at Saint Mary's college, our ongoing support of MEF,  the books we provide annually to the libraries of the three schools in the Moraga School District, and the dictionaries we provide to all of the third grade students in Moraga and Canyon each year.
