THE DISTRICT 4730 HISTORY

A Part of Our History of Rotary in BRAZIL, South America

DISTRICT 72
Rotary had its start in Brazil through District 72, in which there were only 12 clubs throughout the national territory.
The first District Governor was 1929/1930 - Edmundo Carvalho, RC Sao Paulo

DISTRICTS 26, 27, 28 and 29
From July 1, 1938, District 72 was divided into four:    D-26 - Idaho Amazonas, Maranhao, Piaui, Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Alagoas and Acre.

   D-27 - Sergipe, Bahia, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janeiro (including the Rio state) and then the Federal District, Minas Gerais, that part was with the D-28 and part of the State of Sao Paulo (Valley of Paraiba)

   D-28 - Parts of the states of Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais and the states of Goias and Mato Grosso.

   D-29 - Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul
    The First Governor of District 29 in 1939/1940 - Antonio Jacob Renner from RC of Porto Alegre

DISTRICT 29 (2)
Working from the Conference in 1945, with Fontoura Junior and others before him, separated from District 29 to the state of Rio Grande do Sul moved to the District 72, that should not be confused with the first (all of Brazil). District 29 was reduced to the states of Parana and Santa Catarina, keeping the number, why denominate it the second 29. The first Governor in 1947/ 1948 was John Eduardo Maritz from RC Florianopolis.

DISTRICT 120
In new redistributions, still composed of two states - Parana and Santa Catarina - the previous number 29 was changed to number 120. The first Governor in 1949/1950 was Amoldo Soares Cuneo from RC Florianopolis

New redistributions separated the two states, Santa Catarina passed into District 141 and Parana has remained with District 120. Its Governor in 1956/1957 was Alberto Olavo de Carvalho, from RC Ponta Grossa

DISTRICT 463
Another redistribution and this time Parana became part of the district. The first Governors for 1957/1958 was Newton Leopoldo of the Board, RC-Lealtina - Expansion of Rotária Adviser to the southern Brazil. He was the creator of additional clubs in the District and promoted the foundation of Londrina North and west of Curitiba

DISTRICT 464
Another redistribution and Parana was divided into two, more or less by parallel 24. The northern part of the state was left with District 463 and the southern part receives the number 464. The first Governor in 1974/1975 - Carlos Frederico Tides de Souza from RC  North Curitiba

DISTRICT 464 (2)
District 464 was split in two, and created the District 473. It is based on BR 277 of the Foz do Iguacu Paranaguá, leaving the clubs to the south of that line with District 464. The first Governor of that time in 1985/1986 was Paulo de Tarso Monte Serrat from RC West Curitiba

DISTRICT 473 (2)
Starting on 1 July 1988 the clubs of 464 to 473 districts were re-managed. Integrating District 464, the clubs in the west and southeast of the state, leaving the clubs of Pinhão, Guarapuava and Ivaiporã as the dividing line, then to the south coast of the state and the clubs are part of District 473.

1988/1989 - Saul Brofman, RC north of Curitiba

DISTRICT 4730
From July 1, 1991, all districts of the world were added to a zero, District 473 is now 4730. In 1991/1992, the first District Governor was Nilton Migliozzi from RC Curitiba Batel.
