Rotary Club of Andorra

the First Club of the Principality of Andorra

Rotary International District 1700

A Part of Our History of Rotary in Europe

Andorra is a small landlocked country in western Europe, located in the eastern Pyrenees mountains and bordered by Spain and France.
Once isolated, it is currently a prosperous country mainly because of tourism and its status as a tax haven
.
The people of Andorra are currently listed as having the highest human life expectancy in the world, at an average of 83.5 years at birth (2007 est).

Andorra is the sixth smallest nation in Europe, after Malta, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Monaco, and the Vatican City.

The Rotary Club OF Andorra, since its inception in June 1978, has made a number of aid activities in the community, both locally and internationally, following the traditions of Rotary.
It has maximised its collaboration with the Rotary Foundation and with Rotarians around the world.

Our Founding President was Antoni Aristot GOMÀ and the District Governor Jean-Pierre DARNIS.
Our Club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Toulouse and the Rotary Club of Foix. (France.Ed)

On 04 March 2003 our Founding President, Mr Goma passed on, and the whole club was deeply saddened by our loss.
Not only was he our founding member but he worked tirelessly with the Andorran Red Cross, the Automobile Club d'Andorra and the Syndicat d'Initiative, in developing many of our cultural projects.
His guidance and enthusiasm with others showed his discretion was exceptional, and all he did was in the wider freedom and with great sincerity.

He was the Director General of the Valley of Andorra from 1962 to 1963, who's main objective was to widely promote the history of Andorra and of the Andorran people.
An exceptional man, a great loss for the country, he was 87, and all the Rotarians of Andorra and friends added their friendship and remembered with the greatest admiration and affection.

Currently, the Rotary Club of Andorra has 60 members.
The meetings are held every Tuesday at 13:00 hours or 20 hours at the "HUSA CÈNtrIC" Hotel in Andorra.

The Rotary Club of Andorra belongs to Rotary District 1700, which was created in 1958 and was the eighth district in France.
