Rotary International is the ancestor * of service clubs throughout the world and
the Rotary Club of Douala is the grandfather of Rotary in Cameroun.
The club was officially formed on 17 April 1957.
This was the first Club, today there are 17 ROTARY CLUBS throughout the territory
of the Republic of CAMEROON.
(*) In order of their creation, the Kiwanis, from Detroit in 1915, the
Lions in Chicago in 1917, the Zonta in Buffalo in 1919, Soroptimist,
Oakland (USA) in 1921, and the Inner Wheel in Manchester (UK) in 1924.
The club's headquarters are at the Hotel Akwa Palace.
The original charter was presented by Evanston Board members in 1957 to
President PILLET.
However the days and hours of meetings have varied since its inception,
the Club meets every Friday at 1900, there was always an aperitif likely to
maintain the camaraderie, and every second Friday, an appetizer buffet.
A dinner is held for the first meeting of the month.
The Club Committee meets the second Friday of the month, at 18 hours 30.
Particular emphasis is always placed on the appetizer buffet, because it was
accompanied by a''talk''(most likely quite brief statement) led by a Rotarian.
