ROTARY CLUB PEJA

The world’s first civic service organization, Rotary International, has expanded into Pejë, the first Rotary Club (RC) in Kosova. Local members received the charter on June 30, 2006 to join the global association of Rotary International’s more than 32,000 clubs in nearly 170 geographic regions. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community’s business and professional men and women. The world’s Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures and creeds.

Kosova is admitted to Rotary International on November 4, 2005. It is very important for Kosova recent history, making Kosovars equal with the rest of the world and it is the first international recognition of Kosovars. The RC Peja during the first year is implementing different national and international projects for the benefit of the community. Important projects RC Peja is implementing with the support from Indio Sunrise Rotary, California.

Please see below: monthly financial aid for the families of the policemen killed on the line of duty, policeman from Kosova went on training in USA. Other very important projects are, with the Gift Of Life (GOL) support we are sending to USA children in need for the heart surgery.

The Rotary Club of Peja contributed to the Hurricane Katrina relief fund, New Orleans USA. Another important project is a scholarship for the student from the University of Prishtina and cooperation with the municipal government on projects (support families with food and hygiene kit, project for the clean and better city etc). The club joins Rotary’s global network of volunteers in enhancing their communities and promoting international goodwill through club projects, scholarships, cultural exchanges, and grants for development and humanitarian projects.

At right is a photograph of the large stone erected by RC Peja members in the Downtown City Park. The Rotary International round logo can be seen in the centre of the stone.

There are now seven Rotary Clubs in Kosova:

- RC Peja
- RC Prishtina
- RC Gjakova
- RC Prizren
- RC Ferizaj
- RC Mitrovice
- RC Prishtina International
