Other Rotary Clubs in Latvia

A Part of Our History of Rotary in Latvia

On 17 May 1995 the Rigas Hanzas Rotari Klub received its Charter from its Swedish District Governor Hugo Keller the second Rotary Club in Latvia was officially born.

Independence was too recent and many had lost their lives to gain it, including Latvian Rotarians of 1940.
After commencing the proceedings in Riga's oldest church, the official party moved to Latvia's independence monument to remember and lay flowers.

The next day 18 May 1995 club number 3 officially received its Charter in Kuldiga in Kurzeme province.
This was Latvia's first Rotary Club outside its capital.
The Club dedicated its banner and its member's good works to the greater glory of God in St Katherines Lutheran church.

Rotarian Pastor Viesturs Pirro blessed the banner and the members of the club …it was hard to believe that this country for so long had suffered religious persecution
