LIBYA - TRIPOLI

A Rotary Club had been planned for Tripoli in 1968 and is was admitted to membership of RI on August 24, 1968 with 23 charter members.
However, there was a change of government in the country and the new regime was not in favour of there being a Rotary Club in the country.
As a result, the club President, while in Rome, Italy, telephoned the Zurich office to say that the club could not function.

The charter presentation had been scheduled for October 15, 1969 but the club cabled Zurich to say that the meeting had been postponed indefinitely.
The club secretary said that he was no longer associated with the club and asked that his name be removed from the mailing lists.

As no dues had been received since July 1969, the Board resolved in January 1971 to terminate the membership of the Tripoli Club in RI. and the General Secretary was instructed to cancel the charter.
