A Part of Our Section on the History of
Rotary in Europe
On 30 April 1998, the Rotary Club of Chişinău, also known as Kishinev, was
formed under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Bucharest, and on that
date, was officially registered with Rotary International as Club number
51114.
By this time, Rotary was well established in our neighbouring countries and assistance was obtained from other clubs in Romania
and Italy.
The First president was Mr. Chirtoaca Nicolae. Although our first
President was a gentleman of high standing in our community, we are proud to
say that of our 11 Presidents, 5 have been ladies volunteering from the
highest levels of our community.
We believe that this statistic may set a record throughout the Rotary world
for gender equality.
Our 11 presidents have served our club and our community proudly.
During 2-4 May 2008, Rotary Club Chişinău marked 10 years of existence and successful activities, being established in 1998.
On the occasion of this joyful date, the Rotary Club gathered representatives of 25 clubs from Moldova, Romania, Italy,
Lithuania and elsewhere.
During these festivities, new projects were launched new relationships tied.
Many experiences were exchanged to achieve the objectives related to the development of our communities, to improve our
services to charity and efficiency of volunteer work.
It was agreed by all that during our short period, the Rotary Club of Chişinău has performed its duties admirably.
Its more important projects have been undertaken in the directions of -raising awareness of our duties to society through
support for families and children in difficulty; working towards creating equal opportunities for the harmonious development
of children; the endowment with medical equipment to medical institutions for children; support for gifted children by promoting
their capacity to learn and achieve their goals.
The programs dedicated to reaching the ten years of existence has included, among others, sponsoring the formation of the
Interact Club Chişinău, acting as sponsor to the the new Rotary Club of Cahul, receiving the Rotary Club Chişinău of new
achieving significant increases in club membership, hosting many tourist visits in Moldova with particular emphasis on visiting
fellow Rotarians, the launching of a wine under the club's label, and organising a celebratory birthday party with a festive
dinner.
Festivities included a concert at the National Philharmonic and a press conference in the same premises.
To demonstrate the Club's abilities in organising conferences and event management, which was gained by our 10 years of existance,
and at the request of our guests from other countries, discussions were organized in two thematic conference rooms of the Hotel
Vila Verde, with three themes relevant to the interest of our guests and future direction of our activities.
The themes were - business, securities investment, and partnership opportunities. |
