BRIEF HISTORY AND MILESTONES
OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL IN ITALY
1923:
it is founded the first Rotary Club in Milano
1924:
it is founded the second Rotary Club in Italy: RC
Trieste
1925:
in January Rotary Clubs are
established
in Rome, Turin, Naples, Palermo and Genoa; in March new Rotary
Clubs are founded in Venice, Florence and Livorno (Leghorn).
Again in June, the first Rotary Club of Bergamo is founded. In
October Parma and Cuneo are the last targets of the year and a
new Rotary Club is founded each city. In Milano it is also
estabilished the first Rotary International District,
called 46° and then 87°. The first Governor was Mr.
James Henderson,
Rotary Club of Milan.
1938:
November 14th, the Rotary National Council resolve the "auto-quitting",
inviting Italian Rotary Clubs to stop every activity before
December 31st.
1944:
the Second World
War is almost finished; Sicily is already free and Allied Troops
are going to go straight to Rome. In Messina the first Italian
Rotary Club after the conflict is opening.
1946:
Rotary Club of Milano officially reconstitute
its self. In the same year, it is given the First Official
Assembly, called by Bossi, a lawyer and one of the founder of
the Rotary Club Milano. The target is the rebuilding of Rotary District 46.
1949: Italian
Rotary is united under District 46; from this year the District
became 87 1955: Italian Rotary is based on 4 Districts: 87
, 88, 92 and
93.
1957: on July the 1st, Italian Districts are
still four but they
changed in: 184, 186, 188 and 190.
1972: during year 1972, was founded District 187 (later called 207 and then 2070).
1973: in this year, District 183 was founded (later called 203 and in
year 1991, 2030).
1977: District 184 changed its name in 204; 186 in 206, 187 in 207, 188 in 208 and 190 changed it in 210
1978: District 210 was split and 211 (later called 2110) was created.
1978-1979: From June 10 to 13
1979,
R.C.
Rome hosts the
President Clem
Renouf 's RI Convention
1984: District 208 was split and 209 (later called 2090) was created.
1985: District 204 was split and 205 (later called 2050) was created.
1995: District 2100 was split and District 2120 was created.
Nowadays Italy has 10 Districts (since year
2001) and they are:
2030,
2040,
2050, 2060,
2070, 2080,
2090, 2100,
2110 and
2120.
