Essays by Norm Winterbottom

We cannot ever know the innermost motives which prompted Paul Harris to found our wonderful movement, and thus, the Fellowships that have grown from it. We can only accept the motives that have been stated. However, while we honour him for his perception, I believe we do not pay proper homage to Sylvester Schiele.
In the early days of #1, when Paul Harris became disenchanted, and on several occasions, contemplated closing the Chicago club, it was Sylvester Schiele who successfully counselled against it. As a result, you and I have lasting friendships with some of the finest people on God's good earth, and they are the more special, for in almost every case, none of us have ever, nor are likely to, meet face to face.. Yet, despite differences in race, colour, creed and language, we are inextricably bound to each other in friendship by some indeterminate factor that defies definition.

If only all mankind could be so joined, what a wonderful world it would be.

This will be beneficial to all concerned.
