ROTARY PEACE COMMUNITIES - CANADA

 was the First Peace City in Canada
being declared on 19 December 1997 under the guidance of
RC Parksville, D5020 British Columbia, Canada and initiated by
Anton Lim & Bashir El-Khalafawi.
The City of Windsor, Ontario - sponsored by
Anna Jurak and the Rotary Club of Windsor Roseland
Each year four elementary schools in Windsor and Essex County are chosen to be winners
of the Rotary Peace School Prize, based on an application.
They each receive a Peace Pole with "May Peace Prevail on Earth" written in four
languages; English, French and two of their choosing, a plaque to go
inside their school, multicoloured gelly bracelets with "May Peace
Prevail on Earth" on it, an invitation for a bus load of students to the
February 23 "Peace Skate" at a square where our Peace Monument lies, to
celebrate Rotary International's Day of World Peace and Understanding.
We provide the buses, skates for those without, hot drinks and lunches.
The schools must apply each year to maintain their status.
Other schools that have applied also receive Rotary Peace School status if they reach
a certain level of activity.
Our city makes a Proclamation each year as a Rotary International Peace City.
