The HISTORY OF ROTARACT
IN JAMAICA
History   Clubs   Districts

 History
In the early 1960s, Rotary International clubs around the world began to sponsor university youth groups' community service projects.
The 1967-1968 RI President and the RI Board of Directors considered this club activity to have international relevance, and Rotaract was approved in 1968 as an official program for Rotary Clubs.
The first club chartered was the Rotaract Club of North Charlotte, North Carolina, USA on 13 March 1968.

In 1969, the sons of 16 Rotarians decided it was time to bring the Rotaract movement to Jamaica.
It was out of this, the Rotaract Club of Kingston was born.
The club was formed in June (1969), but was not chartered until August (1969).
The Charter president was one Gilbert Ward, who would pave the way for many great individuals to participate in and benefit from the work of Rotaractors.
Since then, we have continued to blaze the path set by our charter members.

At home, the Rotaract Club of Kingston has seen many current Rotarians pass through its doors.
PP Steven Wedderburn (RC – Kingston), Rtn Dwight Myers, Rtn. Lisa Rennals and current president of the Rotary Club of Trafalgar New Heights – Tayana Henry.

 Districts

In 2004, through the assistance of PADG Paul Brown (RC – Spanish Town) and PDRC Homer Brodie (Mandeville), the Rotaract District (7020) was formed. Since then, the Rotaract Club of Kingston has had the honour of claiming 3 of the 6 District Rotaract Representatives.
 Clubs
The Rotaract Club of Kingston is proud to be part of the 20 clubs in Jamaica and the almost 8000 clubs worldwide and we will continue to promote Service above Self through our actions and projects undertaken.
Beyond Kingston, the Rotaract Club of Northern Caribbean University is an institution based Rotaract club in Mandeville, Jamaica. They are a collection of students across a myriad of majors and professions, who pool their resources, time, talents and ideas towards serving their school and general communities.
Their sponsoring Rotary Club is the RC Mandeville.
