THE HISTORY OF INTERACT
IN HUNGARY

  "International Action" or Interact is designed for high school students between the ages of 15 to 18 and constitutes the most important link between school and university students in general.
Interact was launched in 1962 as an international organization of social clubs, to promote international understanding and peace.
There are nearly 7,000 Interact clubs in 100 countries around the world and with more than 150,000 members, organised, sponsored and supervised by Rotary and Rotaract clubs from their area.
Each Interact club is expected to conduct at least two major service projects, one of the local school or community service, and the other international.

The first Interact Club was the
IC Budapest, sponsored by the Town of Theresa Elementary School and High School, chartered in 1991 with the first chairman was Angel Gábor.
The club was later abbandoned.
Mátészalka Interact Club was the second club formed, is the oldest surviving club and one of the most active even though their numbers seldom exceed 10 to 12 students.
The club was formed on 23 October 2004 by the Mátészalka high school students and was sponsored by the RC Knoxville, Tennessee, U.S.A guided by Townes Osborn Miller, PHF.
The Club's Presidents have been:

2007-2008 Gaál Enikő
2008-2009 Kövendy Tamás
2009-2010 Cservenyák Olivér
2010-2011 Bicskó Réka

Some of their major projects include -
Tutoring students in foreign language, from the sale of pastcards,
members present a short musical to children held in hospitals during Christmas
removal of graffiti from city streets.
