Humanitarian Service Rotarian Action Group
Providing Connections between Donors and Recipients of Humanitarian Services

Mission

The aim of the Humanitarian Service Rotarian Action Group, (HSRF), is to develop an international network of Rotarians who are involved in organizing humanitarian service projects. Through their association in this fellowship they are encouraged to share their expertise and experience with other Rotarians engaged in the same type of humanitarian efforts thus promoting a fellowship of service throughout the world. HSRF promotes humanitarian service with no financial, commercial, religious or political goals, expressed or implied.

Goals and Objectives

The objectives of Humanitarian Service Rotarian Action Group are:

• To provide information and experiences to clubs and districts on successful approaches to carrying out international service projects, funding opportunities available through the Rotary Foundation and other sources.

• To develop and disseminate methods for successfully conducting world community service ‘donated goods’ projects.

• To develop and collect information on specialists in world community service who volunteer to assist service projects, disseminate information on the expertise of these specialists,
and help Rotary clubs and districts organize project fairs and other means to promote world community service.

• To identify locales, organizations, and individuals that are capable of warehousing, shipping, and distributing ‘donated goods’ projects including the country specific requirements of customs, acceptance, and support required for the donated goods.

• To establish and maintain an independent database of Rotarians and cooperating organizations whom have expertise in carrying out Rotary projects.

Operations

All Rotarian projects and project specialists who are HSRF members are welcome to actively participate with each other via the HSRF website. Recent Rotary focus has been in four areas - Family of Rotary, Health, Literacy, and Water. At HSRF, we are expanding the categories to include -Literacy, Poverty, Hunger, Health, Clean Water, and Donations-in-kind because these are the areas which are served most by our members.

Literacy
The picture shows Interactors busy sorting donated textbooks. The textbooks are sent to Africa and Central America depending on whether they are in English or Spanish.

Poverty
The picture shows the level of extreme poverty which exists around the world. HSRF members have been involved in providing the families of these children with the opportunity to become self-sufficient.

Hunger
Young Africans carry donated food sacks to their school so that the school can have a feeding program. Without this HSRF members sponsored program, these young people may not eat on any given day.

Health
HSRF members are involved in many different health initiatives. Pictured is a polio immunization in India. Health clinics and avoidable blindness clinics are also popular activities of HSRF members.

Clean Water
A well from which clean water can be drawn is a prize for many rural villages around the world. Pictured is a well powered by a one horse pump. The horse is out of the picture.

Donations-in-kind
Many donated material shipments are made each year by Rotary clubs. HSRF members are experienced in problem solving with donated material shipments. Great monetary leverage can be achieved with donated material but special handling is required.

Website

The HSRF Website is provided by Bill Benter of the Rotary Club of Kowloon North, Hong Kong, District 3450.  It was developed by Andrew Stinson at Bill Benter's direction at no expense to the fellowship.  HSRF thanks Bill and Andrew for this generous contribution to those Rotarians committed to making the world a better place.  They are truly generous men of vision and honor.\
