Picture of an Indian with the inscription "Doe-Wah-Jack Round Oak".

The Dowagiac Round Oak Company was founded by P. D. Beckwith in Dowagiac,

Michigan in 1871. After several years of hard struggles, the company grew

and became a large and well-known stove manufacturer. The Beckwith and

Round Oak names, along with the Doe-Wah-Jack trademark, became household

words and put Dowagiac on the map. The company operated for 75 years, and

was sold in 1946.

For many years, Paul Harris and Dowagiac Rotary Club members had weekend

retreats at the Indy Inn Resort at Indian Lake, 5 miles west of Dowagiac.

Several senior citizens still remember these retreats.  Dowagiac Rotary

Club, District 6360, was founded in 1920,   It is with great pride that

Dowagiac Rotarians have noted the Round Oak Company trademark in Paul

Harris' s office as a memento of these weekends.
