Herbert P Coates

This is a photograph of Herbert P Coates of Uruguay RI District 63,   Governor 1930-1931.   There are two tags on the frame written in faded ink: "DON HERIBERTO MONTEVIDEO 13 MAR 31"   and "And though to the utmost ends of the Earth your duty may bid you fare, If you go with Troth (truth ?)  and a friendly Heart, you will find Friends waiting there."

Born in England, Coates spread the idea of Rotary throughout the continent. He became Rotary's High Commissioner for South America and was a good friend of the Harrises, who he joined on sections of their tour.

Full details of Coates can be found on the section  'Early Leaders'.
