for the office of President of Rotary International for the year 2014-15.

(From Rotary International) 7 August 2012 - Gary C.K. Huang, a member of the Rotary Club of Taipei, Taiwan, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International in 2014-15.

Huang says his vision for Rotary is to increase membership to more than 1.3 million.

“To increase our membership, we must go beyond borders to wherever we see growth potential, such as the countries of China, Mongolia, and Vietnam. I will put an emphasis on increasing female and younger members,” Huang says. “I will also encourage former Rotarians to once again be part of our Rotary family.”

Huang has served as the chair of Taiwan Sogo Shinkong Security Co., Ltd., Shin Kong Life Real Estate Service Co., and P.S. Insurance Agency, Inc. and director of Federal Corporation and managing director of Taipei Life-Line Association.

He is a past president of Malayan Overseas Insurance Co. and charter secretary general of the Council for Industrial and Commercial Development in Taiwan.

A Rotarian since 1976, Huang has served as RI vice president, director, Rotary Foundation trustee, district governor, International Assembly training leader, regional session leader, task force member and coordinator, and committee member and chair.

Convener of the 2000 Hong Kong, 2011 Kuala Lumpur, 2002 Manila, and 2003 Singapore Rotary Institutes, he also served as chair of the 2002 Taipei Presidential Conference. He is chair of the Council of Past District Governors in Taiwan.

Huang created 19 new clubs in 1986-87 as governor of District 345, which included Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

Huang has been awarded the National Civic Service Award by the Federation of Non-Profit Associations and the Outstanding Community Service Award by the Ministry of the Interior, R.O.C. He is a recipient of the RI Service Above Self Award and the Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service.

Huang and his wife, Corinna Yao, have three children.

GARY C.K. HUANG of the Rotary Club of Taipei, Taiwan has been nominated as the President of Rotary International for the year 2014-15.

Gary C. K Huang joined the Rotary Club of Taipei in 1976 at the young age of 31. Prior to being elected a Director in 2000, Gary served on the Council on Legislation, Group Discussion Leader and Chairman, Rotaract Committee. He was also convener of 4 Rotary Institutes in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Singapore. Gary had the singular honour to serve as RI Vice President in 2001, Trustee, The Rotary Foundation (2004-06), Member of Nominating Committee for President of RI in 2004-05, Member, 2008 Los Angeles Rotary International Convention Committee and Chairperson, 2009 International Institute – Birmingham Committee. He was also a Liaison Director, Rotaract Committee and the Youth Exchange Committee, Member, New Models for Rotary Clubs Pilot Project Committee, Member and many others.

During his tenure as trustee, he served as Vice-chairman, TRF Fund Development Committee, Member, TRF Conflicts of Interest Policy Committee, Member, PolioPlus National Advocacy Advisors, Chairman, The Permanent Fund Committee for Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong, Member, The Committee for the PolioPlus Challenge and the list goes on and on.

For his service, Gary was awarded numerous awards; amongst them are Presidential Citation, Service Above Self, The Rotary Foundation Citation for “Meritorious Service” Award, The Rotary Foundation “Distinguished Service” Award and The Foundation Trustees “Distinguished Service” Award

Gary has also received many other non-Rotary awards. Amongst them are Public Spirit Award by the Mayor Hsu Shui De of Taipei City, Public Spirit Award by the Mayor Chen Shui Bian of Taipei City, Honorary Mayor of San Antonio City Alcalde, U.S.A., Bezar County Court Honorary Hidalgo, U.S.A.

Past RI Vice President Gary Huang has represented RI Presidents & TRF Chairmen in numerous district conferences from Philippines, Taiwan, to the Agra ROTASIA Conference, India and Zone Institute 19B&21B, Uruguay.

Gary has the distinction in forming 13 clubs in Taipei and during his tenure as District Governor in 1986-87. He organized 19 new clubs including 3 clubs in Hong Kong and 16 clubs in Northern Taiwan.

Gary’s principle in life is based on “tolerance” which Paul Harris said is what kept Rotary all these years. Another is that “friendship is like a bank account; one cannot continue to withdraw without putting in”. Thus we can say that Gary is a very rich man – rich in having many many friends from all parts of the world.

RI President Nominee, and past Foundation Trustee Gary Huang, a man with 32 Consecutive Years 100% Attendance, is married to Corinna.
