Why I Am A Rotarian

APRIL 4, 2006

Admittedly, I joined Rotary for the wrong reason…it was a requirement of the job that I had just taken in 1988.  Little did I know what a wonderful world would be opened to me by that membership requirement!  You see, it turned out that my personal values and the Rotary ethic were perfectly aligned.  I had been given the gift of membership in an organization that has allowed me to give back to the community, both locally and internationally, in many, many ways that I could not possibly have done on my own.

Having the opportunity to serve as a Club President, District Officer, District Governor, Rotary Regional Membership Coordinator and, currently, as a Major Gift Advisor to The Rotary Foundation has provided me the chance to share the magic of Rotary with countless other Rotarians to encourage and support their involvement in our important work.  The many hours that I have devoted to Rotary activities have greatly enhanced my life, not only with life changing experiences, but also with wonderful and lasting friendships, worldwide, with individuals I would have never had the chance to meet, had it not been for Rotary.

Why am I a Rotarian?  It is quite simply who I am.  It has become such a part of my being… of my world view… that I cannot imagine living life without being a Rotarian.  The job that brought me to Rotary has long since come and gone, but I am a Rotarian for life.
