WHY I AM A ROTARIAN
SEPTEMBER 5, 2006

We chartered the Heartland Rotary Club in 1998. Like many new members of a Rotary club, I got into Rotary because a friend asked me. And like most new members, I did not really know what Rotary was about.

It took two years for me to figure it out. Along the way, the Spirit of Rotary started to creep into my thinking and my heart.

District 5750 started the Wings of Rotary many years ago. This is a program where Japanese kids come to Oklahoma for two weeks and we send Oklahoma kids to Japan every year.

During one of these visits, I was asked to host two Japanese kids for a few nights in our home. Hosting these Japanese kids finalized my transformation from a member of a Rotary Club to a Rotarian.

Many people join Rotary for many reasons. Sadly, some leave Rotary because they have not experience a life-changing event like I did.
