Why I Am A Rotarian

OCTOBER 31, 2006

I've always thought that to serve others was my life's calling. After watching our children grow up and lead lives of their own, my husband and I decided to devote our time to helping others help their lives. We were not part of any organization then; we found people to help, and people found us to help them.

It was in 2005 that my brother, then President-Elect of the Escalon Sunrise Rotary Club in Escalon, California, brought up the idea of setting up a Rotary Club in our town. It was daunting at first, but with much encouragement and support, and the will to serve others, we were able to set up the Rotary Club of Alabat Island, chartered in 2005.

We are still a relatively young club, but in terms of projects and the number of people we have helped, we have accomplished so much more than what my husband and I ever envisioned.

For us, the Rotary Club of Alabat Island is a bigger way of being able to share what we have for the service of others, which we have always wanted to do.
