Why I Am A Rotarian

MARCH 18, 2007

I become a Rotarian for fellowship with people who shared similar values and beliefs.

In 1979 I was first sponsored to become a Rotarian in Hastings, NE.,U.S.A. Before I could be inducted as a member, the company I worked for transferred me to another city. Even though time did not allow the finalizing of my membership in the Hastings Rotary Club, the individual sponsoring me took the time to contact the president of the Rotary Club in my new city.

When my family and I arrived in the new city, we were treated as friends and fellow Rotarians, not as strangers in a new city. This became a pattern over the next 30 years as I became a member of 6 different Rotary Clubs in 4 different countries.

It made each move a bit easier for me and my family, knowing there were Rotary friends waiting for us in the next city. This was particularly important to us when we made our first overseas move.

Today, our Rotary friends circle the globe.

The motto of Service Above Self truly fits a Rotarian.
