WHY I AM A ROTARIAN
DECEMBER 23, 2007
WWW.WHYIAM.ORG

I loved Rotary before getting to really know it. My father became a Rotarian in 1955 and my husband has been a Rotarian since 1976. They both have been District Governors. So at home I always heard good comments about Rotary. In 1996 the Rotary Club San Juan Capital finally accepted women as members and at last I had the opportunity to become a Rotarian.

While I was getting involved I was more and more amazed at what Rotary does internationally. In March 2002, while I was the President of my club, I had one of my most important experiences in that sense because in my country there was no insulin for either poor and/or rich people. I was worried about this situation and I wrote to Rotarians of District 1220 in the U.K.

And then occurred once more the miracle of the Rotarian friendship: only seventeen days after I has written my e-mail, we received all of the insulin that San Juan Province needed for a complete month. In April they offered us to send more insulin but by then the problem was solved and we didn’t need any more help.

The Rotarians of District 1220 in the U.K. provided to our needs and they have been our friends for many years and we have had many kinds of Rotarian exchanges with them.

That’s just one of the reasons why I am a Rotarian.
