"We live in the present, we dream of the future,

but we learn from the past."

Sarah Siu
SiuI first discovered the world of Rotary as a young student when I joined the Rotaract Club of Hong Kong University and later on The Kowloon North West Club. I have made so many friends through Rotaract and many of them have gone on to join Rotary. I loved the opportunity to work on service projects and help others in need.

After graduating from the University of Hong Kong, I worked for a few years and then took another opportunity. I applied for a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship in District 3450. The selection process was intense as there are many worthy candidates every year but I was successful.

I studied for an MSc in Environmental Economics at the University of Birmingham, England in 2007/08 and I took my ambassadorial duties very seriously. I gave my presentations and undertook my duties as any scholar and I got to know Rotary so much more.

My presentation skills improved and my confidence grew. I learned to deal with difficult situations and I developed as a person. I engaged in service projects in England and learned one thing. Rotarians have so much in common – a common thread – a bond to ‘do good in the world’.

After graduation I did join Rotary, firstly, in Derby, England and then as a member of the Rotary e-Club of London Centenary. As a young professional person who has had to change jobs and location, this makes sense for me

I still help in service projects with my company and with my old Rotaract Club. I’ve also given presentation to the new class of scholars as they prepare on their own journey.

Rotary has given me so much and I can’t thank them enough. But the best way I can show my gratitude is to commit myself to helping the future generations.

Thank you Rotary – all of you – for what you did for me. I will never forget it.
