in ALGERIA

History of IIW in Algeria   Clubs   Districts  
 
 History 
  While Algeria was a French territory until 1962, the The Inner Wheel clubs in Algeria are all under the administration of the "Association des Clubs Inner Wheel de France Andorre, Maroc, Algerie, Tunisie" (FAMAT). While French may not be an official language, Algeria is the second largest French speaking country in the world.
 Districts 
 District 73 encompasses the south east corner of France, Corsica and the three countries of north west Africa.

The District Governors since the first club, have come from France where district conferences are also held and the first District Assembly, held in 2011, was hosted by Bastia.

 Clubs
 
There are 4 Inner Wheel clubs in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria including 2 in the capital city of Algiers.
 Clubs and their Charter dates

 Alger - 15 May 1999; Sponsor - Casablanca;
 Alger Lumieres - 12 April 2007; Sponsor - Alger; Twinned with Morges (Switzerland)
 Tizi-Ouzou - 11 June 2009; Sponsor - Alger Lumieres;
 Alger Esperance - 4 June 2011; Sponsor - Toulon (France);
 
On Friday, June 4 2011, Jeanne Guerin, National President of FAMAT presented the Charter to Kamélia KHALFA, Founding President of the Club of Alger Espérance and read the welcome letter from International President Pallavi Shah, in the presence of the District 73 Governor Catherine Lignon, and Christiane Requin from the Board of Directors representing the sponsoring club (Toulon).
Several friends of the District made the trip: Josée Cardinale, Immediate Past Governor delegated to the extension, Meryem Bendjador National Treasurer, Past Governors Alice Monico of Chantal Martin, Marie Françoise Lécuyer, District Secretary.
It was noted the presence of clubs from Algiers, Alger Lumières, Hammamet, and Tizi Ouzou, a total of 11 clubs were represented from District 73, as well as many friends with the President of Rotary Rotary Alger La Baie (sponsoring club).
