The women's efforts in our country has a long tradition. |
By the 19th century, social movements have spread to Hungary, many women and men were writing the equal rights of both sexes. In 1904, 200 women and 50 men developed a Feminist Association, whose numbers grew exponentially from year to year. Count Albert Apponyi of Budapest, Augusta, and Rosenberg, vice president of the Women's Association, founded the Soroptimist Club in 1928. The founding members included teachers, architects, electrical engineers, physicians, mathematicians, financial expert, interpreter, tour guide. In 1936, The Annual General Meeting of the Soroptimist Club was held in Budapest , the during the International Women Week, chaired by Lorant Hegedus and Soroptimizmus the title given to the gathering. These clubs continue to exist in Hungary despite their original ban by the Nazi occupation and were resurrected after the war. The first officially accepted Inner Wheel club was created by businesswoman Margaret Golding, the wife of a member of RC Manchester and was founded in 1924. In Manchester, on 15 November 1923, 27 Rotarians met with a view to declaring the principles of the Rotary club and to create an independent womens organisation. The next meeting was held on January 10, 1924 which is recognised as the official foundation official date. This is the birthday of Inner Wheel since 1970, generally recognized as the World Day. The founder Margaret Golding was elected the first president on 10 January, 1924 and W. A. Nixon became the first woman secretary. The thirty-six founding members adopted a basic rule, of which the first has been to be a club called "Inner Wheel". It must be acknowledged that the innovation was brilliant, because it complied with the Rotary requirement to avoid the use of "Rotary", but simultaneously recognising the relationship with the symbol of the main body, with reference to the Rotary wheel. After the Inner Wheel Club of Manchester the word spread quickly and thanks to the wives of Rotarians, who together with such persons as Golding, the movement gradually spread throughout Britain and Ireland. In 1927 a further five new clubs started operation:- the Inner Wheel Clubs in Liverpool, Macclesfield, Nelson, St. Helens, and Warrington. In 1928, the first Inner Wheel District was formed, similar to the Rotary District. Elected officials from those clubs were authorised to vote on any business. As the Inner Wheel Districts increased, they began to be numbered so that the area received a number of corresponding where possible, with the Rotary District number. In 1931, 56 clubs existed. By the end of 1932, four new District was established; in 1933 a further 3 and at that time, a central governing body was created to coordinate all member clubs. So in 1934, eight Districts had 76 clubs operating in England, and 1 each in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. 79 club delegates attended the 1934 conference held on May 6 in Douglas. The conference approved and ratified the constitution and adopted the name in which Great Britain and Ireland, Association of Inner Wheel Club was born. The Alliance's first elected president was Margaret Golding, and the first secretary was Ms W. A. Nixon. Apart from Great Britain and Ireland, clubs were formed in other parts of the world prior to 1934. In Australia, Ballarat in 1931, North Sydney and Bendigó in 1933. In the mid-1930s, an increasing number of Inner Wheel Clubs were founded, including in 1935 - Bergan, Norway; 1936 - Napier, New Zealand; in 1938 - Port Elizabeth, South Africa; in 1943 - Winnipeg, Canada; in 1946 Apeeldom, Netherland. The International Inner Wheel came into existence on 1 July 1967. Lavender Weightman was the founding president. The first meeting was held on 3rd and 4th October 1967. Districts |

The Inner Wheel Club of Budapest was chartered on 19 February 1998.On 23 September 1997, twenty-three people were formally involved in its formation, having been sponsored by the IWC Nuremberg. The club was registered by the Budapest Court on 19 February 1998 at the register of associations. The club's charter ceremony was held on 9 may 1998. Agnes Ottrubay was the founding president. The Nuremberg and Budapect members regularly visit each other. The Club Presidents have been - 2007-2008 Dr. Turmezey Judit 2008-2009 Dr. Tornyai Magdolna 2009-2010 Siposné Tamás Krisztina 2010-2011 Tar Judit 2011-2012 Kiss-Dózsainé Héjja Erika Of the many projects undertaken since formation, the more memorable ones include - ►The Childrens ambulance project: In 1999-2000 the Budapest-RC and RC Sasaddal Reggio Emilia has worked together for Child Safety Service cars fully equipped with medical equipment; ►The Blind Batthyány László Catholic Children's Home, School kindergarten and General Support. The events have received donations every year since its foundation in support of the Children's Home, Nursery and Primary School community. The institutional system for Braille computer equipment was purchased and installed. ►Gift of Life Project: This major internationally coordinated IIW project has been supported by IWC Budapest since formation. It provides a gift of life to children with heart diseases and extends well beyong the borders of Hungary. ►The Joint Hospital, St. Stephen and St. Ladislaus: Provided assistance in obtaining auto-acoustic emission measuring device for newborn hearing test. ►The Schöpf-Mérei Ágost Hospital and Parent Support Centre:- Provided continuous physical support and volunteer work; The Municipality of "Aga" Childrens Home - Operating charity events with proceeds to support the Age Street Foster Home for street children, which now supports 43 children between the ages of 3 and 18; ►The Semmelweis University Pediatrics Department to help care for children with kidney disease. ►Miracle of Light Foundation: provides support for the Miracle Lamp Foundation to more seriously ill child's wish to meet, and at least for a few hours, bring a smile on their faces. ►Ad hoc assistance projects too numerous to mention here. The club also hosts a Charity Christmas bazaar and the Charity Spring Flower Fair. The Inner Wheel Club Mátészalka History 2007-2010.  The club was established in 2007 and was officially chartered on 25 August 2007. The founding president was Dr. Ungvári Zsigmondné and the club was sponsored by the IWC Budapest. The club's presidents have been: 2007-2008 Dr. Ilku Magdolna 2008-2009 Havasiné Varga Erzsébet 2009-2010 Pákné Homoki Erzsébet 2010-2011 Sirpa Hannele Ihanus 2011-2012 Wheel Jánosné Paul Harris Awards Pak Elizabeth Sand 2011 Sirpa Hannele Ihanus 2011 Major projects have included - ►Beregszászi Kossuth Lajo primary school support with school equipment, books and other educational material; ►The Nagydobosi Perényi Péter foster home provision of playfround equipment and regular visits of support; ►An annual drawing competition where up to 156 entries are received and certificates given to all participants; ►A "Talented Youth" Project - An outstanding achievement award in support of young people with a competition for primary school students in Mátészalka. The IWC Mátészalka in conjunction with the Rotary club eventually selected five students to vie for a total of US$250,000 in cash. The winners were announced at an awards ceremony at the closing of the school year. ►Skatepark project - in cooperation with other NGOs and the city council, this huge project involves a skatepark (skateboard, skateboard track) in the developmental stages and still a long way from completion but receives continuous support from club members. Sister Club arrangement with Lahti Region, Helsinki, Finland and exchange visits. The Inner Wheel Club Kecskemét  Established: 2009; Chartered on 17 May 2009. The 17-member club was formed by Deli Gyöngyvér and the founding president was Dr. Tornyai Magdolna (IWC Budapest). The club presidents have been - 2008-2009 Deli Gyöngyvér 2009-2010 Deli Gyöngyvér 2010-2011 Annamaria Tari 2011-2012 Julia Szalai Major projects in this short period have been - ►The Maple Street Special School supporting children's action games; daily theatrical performances; courtyard renovation; providing a playground at the Sunshine Children's Home; in cooperation with the city council, help at the County Hospital neonatal department and department; story books and toys to hospitalised children; RC Kecskemét also works with the local Lions Club, jointly organising special theatrical performances for children. ►Bacs-Kiskun County kindergarten, an elementary school; ►Advanced Skills Vocational School, College; ►Vocational Education Uniform Service; ►Children's Home and Institute for Social Support; ►In the summer of 2009, renovations at a special school for children and responsible for the Snoezelen therapy room which gives benefits to the impaired as well as providing tranquility and relaxation to calm the central nervous system. ►Children's Day charity toy collection action. ►Safer playground for the Sunshine Children's Home residents. ►Children's Day charity theater for the entertainment and development of disadvantaged children and operated in conjunction with the Lions Club.
