StewartJean (Taterus) Stewart bio

Jean became a member of Shamokin Rotary Club in 1989. She served as President in 1993-94 and served four years as Club Secretary.

In her District 7370, Jean served on the Nominating Committee, 1992-94. She served as Interact Chairperson, 1993-94, Community Service Chairperson and District Conference Committee, 1994-95, and Community Service Chairperson, 1995-96.
Jean was nominated to serve District 7370 as Governor for the year 1997-98. However, the DGN for 1996-97 died in October 1995. Jean was asked to step up to serve the district a year earlier. This provided Jean with a few weeks to prepare for Zone Institute and DGN training.

Jean attended the 1996 International Assembly in Anaheim in February. During this week she met her classmates but one, in particular, made an impression on Jean with his sense of humor. His name was Maurice Stewart from District 1270 in the United Kingdom.

Jean and Maurice continued their friendship through emails during their Rotary year. Maurice invited Jean to speak at his conference in Scarborough and Jean invited Maurice to her conference in the Poconos. The Pocono conference attracted 500 plus and was the best attended conference over many years.

During her year as Governor Jean is proud of the effort of Rotarians’ giving to the Rotary Foundation. The giving of the year to Rotary Foundation was at a record high.

After her year as Governor, Jean divorced and moved house. She was invited to become a member of Sunbury Rotary Club in District 7370. She was a member here for two years. At the Sunbury club she served as Rotary Foundation Chairperson.
Days before the millennium Jean quit her day job and moved to England to be with Maurice. She is now a member of the Gainsborough Rotary Club in District 1270 and is the only female in her club.
