VOICES OF RGHF MEMBERS

BasilQuite simply, I was invited to join Rotary by my vicar. It would be nice to ascribe a higher motive to my acceptance but realistically there was none.  I knew only a little about Rotary having spoken to two clubs while I was teaching in the USA in 1962/3, twenty years earlier, but no more, and absolutely nothing about the club I was to join.  None of my friends or work colleagues ever mentioned being in Rotary, and it was not until I became a member that I discovered how many were, in fact, Rotarians.  Although I worked part time in the local broadcasting media, I had never come across a Rotary activity, and it was only at the 'information session' that I learned about some of the many activities in which Rotary was involved.   Perhaps this was the reason that for 15 years, I worked as a PR and Communications Officer at club, district and RIBI level.

Having got me into Rotary, my vicar promptly moved to another area.

I've often wondered if there was any connection.  Basil Lewis, England 10 July 2011
