AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 21ST CENTURY, ROTARY club of Chicago HAD APPROXIMATELY 300 MEN AND WOMEN AS ROTARIANS. IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS MOST ROTARY CLUBS, WHICH IS RETENTION AND GROWTH OF MEMBERSHIP IN OUR FAST PACED SOCIETY.

THE MISSION OF ROTARY/One IS “TO ACTIVELY STRENGTHEN THE CHICAGO AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITIES THROUGH PHILANTHROPY, FELLOWSHIP AND EXAMPLE”.

WITH THE PROLIFERATION OF OTHER ROTARY CLUBS IN THE CHICAGO METROPOLITAN AREA, THE ROTARY CLUB OF CHICAGO HAS BECOME MORE COMMONLY KNOWN AS ROTARY/ONE, WHICH DISTINGUISHES IT FROM OTHER CHICAGO ROTARY CLUBS.

Some of the Major Projects Supported By ROTARY/One are:
  • ROTARY/One Pediatrics Floor and Children's Free Care Fund at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago with over $2.5 million dollars in total contributions since 1969.
  • Annual Charity Ball benefiting Charities determined by the Board of Directors

  • Children's Christmas Party at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago

  • Introduce Chinese graduate students studying in Chicago to Rotary at noon luncheons

  • Host cocktails/dinner meeting for Council On Legislation representatives and spouses the week of June 14, 2004

  • International Service - Promotes the Centennial Convention in Chicago, and hosts international Rotarian visitors every week.

  • Holds an annual meeting at Rotary International Headquarters

  • Youth Services-ROTARACT, Youth Exchange, RYLA & Student Scholarships

  • Operation LIMBS providing assistance to landmine survivors

  • Gift of Life provides open heart surgery to selected children from other countries

  • ROTARY/One Foundation, Inc. provides grants to charitable organizations, college scholarships for residents of Chicago, and funds to help provide charitable service to both local and international communities
