District 205 is in Zone 12 and was born in the 1985 when Evanston
decided to split in two, different districts in the Lombardy area
(previously included in District 204).
District 204 was created with the Milan area, Bergamo, Como,
Sondrio and Varese cities and provinces;
District 205 was founded with East and South-East Lombardy,
including Rotary Club Piacenza, making in total 34 Rotary
Clubs. District 205 was assigned the areas of Brescia, Cremona, Lodi,
Mantua, Pavia and Piacenza and a few small cities in the region of Milan.
When this splitting occurred, the Elected Governor of the District,
Mario Staffieri, a gentleman with deep culture and great Rotarian
spirit, was somewhat embittered by the split and traveled to
Nashville to join the International Rotary Assembly.
He was the first Governor of the newborn District.
During his stay in Nashville, he and Enzo Cossu, Eugenio Bononi,
Lino Poisa, Luciano Malchiodi and Dante Anselmi actively promoted
their dissent but to no avail.
When Staffieri returned, he sent this message to every Rotarian
of the new District:
"District 205 raises itself to the Rotary International scene
with sure omens of strong, profitable and happy life, because great
Rotarians and young beginners are serving here and they just wait to
be valorized.
To You, dear friends of District 205 of Rotary International, the
duty to magnify Rotary’s service spirit with your enthusiasm, your
experience and your goodness, is yours".
District 2050 had, in the beginning, 33 Rotary Clubs and it
grows until 42 Clubs (during the year 1990), but in 1991 Rotary
decided to transfer 10 Clubs to District 2040.
Starting again
from 32 clubs in the year 2006-2007, District 2050 now has 64 Clubs,
with approximately 3,200 Rotarians. For further information, visit
