At a recent meeting, the question was raised as to why and when blue and gold were chosen as Rotary's colours. R.I. Reference archivist Robin Dillow sent this:

The Committee on Emblem and Colours unanimously recommended royal blue and gold, which were adopted as the Rotary Colours at the August 1912 Convention of the International Association of Rotary Clubs in Duluth. Unfortunately, we do not have the Committee meeting minutes or notes, and therefore, have no record of the Committee's discussion about the colours.

It has been suggested that the blue represents the sea and sky; the gold possibly the earth and sun. If anyone can offer a definitive answer, please contact the RGHF.  Basil Lewis, Sr. RGHF historian, UK,  28 November 2008
