The HISTORY OF ROTARACT
IN MACAU
History   Clubs   Districts

  History
 The Rotaract Club of Macau was chartered in the 1988-1989 Rotary Year when PP Bien Mulyapatera was President of the Rotary Club of Macau.
Due to lack of communication among members, the Rotaract Club was dissolved after being active for only one year.
When PP Gary Ngai became President of the Club in 1991-1992, the Rotaract Club of Macau was restructured, reactivated and formed by 20 young members, mostly students from the University of Macau.
Leading then was President Jeff Suen.

 District
  The four clubs in Macau share District 3450 with the Rotaract clubs in Hong Kong and Mongolia.
 Rotaract Districts use the same number as that which applies to Rotary Clubs.

 Clubs
 With the support of our Mother Club, Rotary Club of Macau and the Macau Government, the Club has organized a lot of activities, aiming to serve the needy in the society as well as broadening the horizon of members:
- “Power Construction 1992-1999” which had different themes every year, such as recruiting volunteers to help society, anti-drug abuse, effect of mass media on youngster… aroused public awareness by organising essay/lyrics composition contest, seminar, variety show, social workers recruiting camp;
“City Forum 1997 - Industrial Transform in Macau” was a joint project with Rotary Club of Macau;
“New Generation Youth Conference” was a joint project with the other three Rotaract Clubs in Macau since 1997 (Macau Central, Hou Kuong and Guia), encouraging youngsters to express their opinion about Macau policies and discuss with representatives from different government departments;
“Charity Trip to Guangxi” is a charity project started by our mother club, visiting schools built by Rotary Clubs. Coordinating with Rotaract Club of University of Macau Students’ Union(UMSU) these few years, we continue to visit the students in Du’an, Guangxi every year, bringing them materials and love.
- To promote international understanding and goodwill between two countries, the Club has co-organised “Goodwill Ambassador ” international service project to Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, Nepal, India, Mongolia and Indonesia, with local Rotaract Clubs respectively since 2002. Four Ambassadors were chosen by writing and presenting a proposal to promote Macau in various aspects. In return, the Club’s delegation knew more about their partners through sharing, visiting commercial businesses, schools, national and NGO organizations and sight seeing.
- Professional speakers are invited to talk in our monthly general meetings.
We also sent delegations to difference countries and places, like Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Beijing, Guangxi and Shenzhen, and site visit to Daya Bay Nuclear Plant.
The Club has two sister clubs, Rotaract Club of Tanglin, Singapore (since 1998), and Rotaract Club of Semarang Yudhistira, Indonesia (since 2011), and two friendship clubs, Rotaract Club of Pudu, Malaysia (2003) and Rotaract Club of Bangkok South, Thailand (2006). "Our Club will continue to contribute to the Rotaract movement as all members have a common goal – to learn, to serve, to lead!"
