A Part of our History of Rotary in Asia

The first planning meeting of the Rotary Club was organized on September 22, 2001, and it was attended by the Rotary Club of Ulaanbaatar:

i. ex-President Mr.Ganbold in the capacity of the District Governor's Special Representative,

ii. Vice-President of the RCU J.Oyungerel, and

iii. RCU International Service Director N.Batbold.

The first meeting of the organizing group of 12 was held on September 22, 2001, at the Elite Club in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Vice-President J.Oyungerel made an introduction to the Rotary movement worldwide and in Mongolia, and why and who can join the Rotary.

The first meeting of the provisional Rotary Club was organized on October 13, 2001, at the Hotel Edelweiss. Along with the District Governor's Special Representative, Vice-President of the RCU J.Oyungerel, and RCU International Service Director N.Batbold, some 20 people came to this meeting. The RCU representatives introduced again the Rotary movement to the newcomers and provided more insight into the Rotary. A booklet This Is Rotary was distributed to the participants in the meeting.

The second meeting of the provisional Rotary Club was organized on October 26, 2001, at the Monand Café. RCU President L.Gombo, Vice-President J.Oyungerel, Treasurer B.Undral, and 23 guests attended the meeting. President L.Gombo briefed on the regional Club presidents convention held in Hong Kong and shared his views on why important to join the Rotary.

The third meeting of the provisional Rotary Club was organized on November 2, 2001, at the Monand Café. District Governor's Special Representative Ch.Ganbold chaired the proceedings, and RCU President L.Gombo, Vice-President J.Oyungerel, and International Service Director N.Batbold were present at the meeting attended by 26 persons, who had been at one of the previous three meetings. The following agreements has been achieved the meeting:

- 26 persons expressed their wish to become the charter members of a new Rotary Club;
- The participants in the meeting endorsed the Standard Club Constitution and its Bylaws;
- The name was chosen to be the Rotary Club of Khuree (the previous name of the Mongolian capital);
- The Club was agreed to hold its weekly meeting every Thursday between 18.30 - 20.00 hours at a venue to be decided at the next meeting;
- The Club elected its officers: Ms. J.Oyungerel as President, Mr. N.Batbold - President-Elect, Mr. A.Sukhdorj - Vice-President, Mr. Tsogtbaatar - Secretary, Ms. Saran - Treasurer, Mr.Jandavsuren - Sergeant-at-Arms.
- The Club members agreed on the extent of the admission fee and annual fee.

The first subsequent meeting of the provisional Rotary Club was organized on November 8, 2001, at the Monand Café, RCU Secretary Barrie Evans was invited as the guest speaker, and he told the Club members about the avenues of the activity, and provided more information about the Rotary in details. The Club members have agreed to meet at another venue before making a final decision regarding this issue.

The next meeting of the provisional Rotary club of Khuree was on November 15, 2001 at the Si Si Cafe. The Past President of RCU Mr.Zorigt was invited as the guest speaker, he told about the projects of RCU period 2000-2001.

At this meeting members chose the Si Si cafe in Sukhbaatar district as the place of regular meetings of the provisional club of Rotary Club of Khuree.
Our history is short, but our vision is optimistic and future is long.
