History of IIW in the Netherlands   Clubs

 History 
 Inner Wheel was introduced to the Netherlands in 1946 when the Inner Wheel of Apeldoorn (which is presently in District 56) was formed.

 1949 The first District is created in the Netherlands with District 58 catering for 8 clubs and 91;
In 1956 the Inner Wheel Club of Paramaribo, Suriname, South America was formed and became the first Dutch speaking club outside of the Netherlands;
In 1957 foreign districts are issued a position on the Inner Wheel Council;
In 1967 International Inner Wheel is established with a board in which each country is represented.
In 1970 the first IIW Convention in The Hague was held as a tribute to the Netherlands being the first overseas District;
In 1971 and following Suriname, the second Inner Wheel club in a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was formed with the IW Club of Curacao;
1974 Inner Wheel Netherlands is 25 years old.
1975 sees District 58 split into D58 and D60;
1979 At this moment there are 45 clubs in the Netherlands;
1978 Bep Bier-Reitsma is the first Dutch International President;
In 1979 the 30th anniversary celebrations were held in Alkmaar;
1989 Inner Wheel Netherlands is 40 years old and growing;
1990 District 56 becomes the third district covering the Netherlands;
1991 Eighth Convention in The Hague;
1995 Ida Dubbeldam- de Klerk is appointed the second Dutch International President;
1999 Inner Wheel Netherlands is 50 years old;
2001 Clubs and districts are made administratively independent by resolution of the international committee;
2004 Metje Hanekamp-van de Kamp appointed the third Dutch International President;
2009 Inner Wheel Netherlands has achieved 60 years of success and celebrates its jubilee in Dronten.

Meanwhile I.W. Netherlands has become an association of 75 clubs with 2750 members and holds a prominent place within the International Inner Wheel.
Inner Wheel Netherlands has delivered three times an International President.
Although society has changed much since its foundation, the world of Inner Wheel is still growing.
National Inner Wheel gets gradually more and more like a service club with highly valued friendship.
The Inner Wheel national archive holds all relevant official documents, the flags of all clubs and curiosities which have been collected over the years.


 Districts 
District 56 has 24 clubs;
 District 58 has 24 clubs; and
 District 60 has 28 clubs including clubs in Suriname and Curacao.
