Tim Tucker, UK
Tim has been a member of the
Rotary Club of St Ives in Cambridgeshire since autumn 1995.
He was Club President for 2002-2003 and is
a Paul Harris Fellow.
Other club offices he has held from 1996 include
the Chairs of Community Service, Youth Opportunities,
International Service and Membership Service.
He also served for three separate years
during this time as the club’s Rotaract Officer.
Tim has
served on District as the D1070 Rotaract Officer 2006-2009, and
then District Rotaract Chairman for 2009-10.
He has served on the D1070 Membership
Services Committee from 2006-08, and then on the D1070 Youth
Committee for 2008-09.
In
October 2007 Tim was awarded the Rotaract District 1070 Rotary
Liaison Trophy for 2006-2007.
He was also awarded the trophy for a
second time in October 2009 for 2008-09.
In April
2008 Rotary District 1070 was awarded the RIBI (Rotaract in
Great Britain and Ireland) Award for best Rotary District
support of Rotaract in 2007-2008 by the Rotaractors of RIBI (the
29 districts of Zones 17 and 18).
For two
years Tim has taken an active part in the Rotaract Preconvention
held prior to the RI Convention each year.
In June 2008 he was an invited speaker at
LA 2008
(‘From Rotaract to Rotary: A Personal History’)
and in June 2009 he was Chief Sergeant at Arms at the Birmingham
2009 Rotaract Preconvention.
In
autumn 2009 Tim was elected to serve as a D1070 Assistant
Governor for 2010-11
Before
Rotary service Tim was a Rotaractor.
In 1974 Tim was invited to join the
Rotaract Club of Epsom prior to club’s formation in 1975, but as
he was just 17 at the time he had to wait a little longer.
Tim joined the club in 1976.
Over the following ten years he held
various club positions including Vocational Service Chairman,
Club Service Chairman and Treasurer.
He was Club President 1979-1980 and then
District 114 Vice Chairman 1980-1981.
During the late 1970’s / 1980’s District
114 consisted of some 50+ Rotaract clubs.
Past members of the club continue to meet
once a year on the Saturday before each Christmas.
Tim has
been a regular browser of the RGHF website since early 2002 and
played the recording of Paul Harris from the website at a club
meeting in spring 2002.
He also used references from ‘My Road to
Rotary’ and other RGHF information in proposing the toast to RI
and RIBI at his club’s Charter Celebration in October 2002.
Tim joined RGHF at the end of 2006 and,
rather innocently, suggested that ‘wouldn’t it be good to have a
similar History of Rotaract as part of the RGHF website’.
Tim’s
Rotary interests range over all the avenues of service.
In particular, his two prime areas of
focus are;
For
Rotary Clubs to widen the service to their communities and
internationally by creating and actively supporting a Rotaract
Club involved in a full programme of service and fellowship
activities.
Rotaract, as part of the Rotary Family,
compliments the achievements of Rotary.
And, for
all Rotary clubs to appreciate their own history and that of
Rotary worldwide so as to enhance their enjoyment of Rotary,
their Rotary service, and to increase membership and membership
retention.
