Sun.Ergos for Peace

“Since 1977, the motto of our company has been "to celebrate the differences and recognize the similarities among peoples and cultures" in order to combat prejudice, hate, intolerance and ignorance which create wars, murder, rape and destruction on a massive scale.  We are a two-man company, an actor and a dancer, but we have never thought 'small'.   We have traveled to 17 countries on 4 continents to find ways to bring peace, comfort, beauty and thoughtful and emotional adventures to audiences of all ages, kinds, shapes and colors.  We have received cultural and humanitarian awards from Poland, Canada, USA, Croatia and the Consejo Cultural Mondial, honoring the work we have done to help people see themselves in a world context, that one culture has the same stories, feelings, thoughts and needs as any other.  We have tired to build peace from the ground up, not the top down. The emphasis Joe Kagle ( who has produced our work in Waco, Texas ) places on humanity and art through his Peace Journey by using a magnificent Ming Dynasty hand scroll to take himself and his friends in search of the tranquility, calm, dignity and the prosperity and generosity of stillness is highly to be recommended to peoples everywhere - and there is no more important time than now in the midst of the chaos of current egos and politics to take such a journey.”

Robert Greenwood, Artistic and Managing Director, Sun.Ergos, A Company of Theatre and Dance, Alberta, Canada

SUN.ERGOS, celebrating 29 years as a dynamic, innovative, adventurous and peace-driven fellowship of two, is a theatre and dance company of perfoming arts. The company founded by Robert Greenwood, actor, and Dana Lueke, dance, has performed in seventeen countries on four continents, having created over 47 shows of some 400 pieces since 1977.

Sun.Ergos has represented Calgary, Alberta and Canada in England, Scotland, Wales, Belgium, Holland, Sweden, Poland, Austria, Czech and Slovak Republics, Yugoslavia, Croatia, Israel, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and, of course, Canada and the United States in festivals, as part of community series, in colleges and universities, institutions and primary and secondary schools. The mandate of the company is “to celebrate the differences and recognize the similarities among peoples and cultures around the world” in order to break down prejudice, ignorance and intolerance. Sun.Ergos does this by witnessing original, folk and classic stories, dances, poetry and the visual arts from various cultures and sharing them with audiences of one culture with another.

The company has also taught in community outreach programs, offers residency programs, has done theatre consulting, and has won awards from Canada, the United States, Poland and Croatia including the Key to the City of Primosten which has only been given out three times since the 13th century. Awards of honor from The First Theatre in Pila, Poland, the Leonardo DaVinci Diploma of Excellence from the Consejo Cultural Mondial, the highest cultural honor from Croatia- the Redom Danice Hrvatske’s Likom Marka Marulica, the Classic Lake Award in Fine Arts from Minnesota, four art awards from the Medunarodni Djecji Festival Sibernik and art study grants from Alberta and the Canada Council.

Sun.Ergos is currently creating four new shows based on Japanese, Slovakian, Middle Eastern and Grecian stories and dances.

“What these two individuals bring to the stage in any part of the world is a celebration of mankind in harmony with his universe, or as their mantra says, “Moving the Human Spirit.” They are a joy to see, hear and experience. They achieve a unique mixture of music, theater and dance in their special journey of peace, creating characters, stories, tales and scenes with relish, energy and a rich enthusiasm that is refreshing.”  Joe Kagle

“..a chuckling, mocking, tantalizing, but ever-so-smooth talking salesman- Bob Greenwood…teasing, tricky and once hilarious in red tights and black evening tails, he demonstrates considerable dramatic force….” The Calgary Sun

“Luebke came into his own..a dance of joy, executing well-turned athletic jumps, spins and fancy footwork. It was a virtuoso piece…(he) is without doubt a polished and versatile performer. He enjoys himself so thoroughly on stage that his energy is contagious.” The Calgary Herald

“A…beauty is born.” The Daily Telegraph, London.
